Plan the remaining work
A released operation brings its setup and run estimate, precedence, part revision and required quantity. The schedule assigns the remaining work to an eligible resource and a position in that resource’s queue. Actual completion, rework and approved job transfers change what remains to be planned.
Named machines and benches carry working calendars with shifts, breaks, holidays and downtime. The shop’s timezone defines the displayed working day; schedule boundaries retain actual instants. A work centre’s machine count summarizes those resources and does not multiply their available hours a second time.
Outside operations carry the supplier’s planned turnaround between eligible predecessor and successor work. They do not occupy a fictitious internal machine while the parts are at the processor.

Compare a proposed schedule before confirming it
Planning can work back from the due date using the remaining operation hours, calendars and outside spans. The result is a proposal for Production Manager to review. An overloaded week, a missing calendar or a conflicting resource assignment needs a decision rather than a promise that the due date can be met.
| Scheduling choice | What the planner checks |
|---|---|
| Due-date sequence | Remaining work against the original and current customer promise |
| Hot or Rush work | Which confirmed slots would move and which other jobs become exposed |
| Setup grouping | Whether the same fixture or material sequence is valid for each released plan |
| Alternate capacity | Resource capability, approved routing and available working intervals |
| Partial delivery | Exact production and demand quantities eligible to move ahead |
Confirmed slots preserve the calendar version, sequence and person who accepted the plan. Production Manager coordinates across the shop. Shop Supervisor can reorder and confirm eligible work at their own work centres. A local queue change cannot claim another centre’s capacity without the appropriate planning authority.

Keep readiness separate from queue position
An operation can remain visible on a dispatch list while its start is blocked. The current job must be released and free of an applicable hold. Its material, predecessor quantity, traveler revision and inspection conditions must be satisfied before clock-on.
First-article approval permits the defined operation to continue after a setup check. It does not complete the run or release an unmade quantity to the next work centre. Final acceptance and shipment readiness also remain separate from scheduled completion dates.
An operator working two machines needs valid time allocation and physical resource availability. A schedule entry does not authorize duplicate labour or the same machine being occupied twice during one interval.
Respond to changes with the consequences in view
A rush order may justify moving confirmed work. Production Manager reviews the resulting displacement before confirming a revised plan. Priority describes the business decision; it does not make a machine available or remove a quality hold.
Buyer records updated outside promises with their evidence while preserving the original promise. Those changes identify downstream work that needs replanning. A supplier call does not silently overwrite the shop’s confirmed queue. The manager can assess another processor, revised sequence or a customer conversation using the revised proposal.
Holds and overdue work remain visible with the affected operation and quantity. Resolving the cause allows the planner to confirm a feasible new slot. Historical confirmed revisions remain available to explain how the current commitment changed.
Move a partial quantity ahead safely
A job split can support an early delivery or a separate production path. The approved transfer specifies which lots, remaining operations, material claims, estimate, incurred costs and sales allocation move to the new job. The source loses that scope as the destination receives it.
The combined customer demand stays within the accepted order. Already shipped pieces, accepted lots and outside custody are reconciled explicitly. A new job number alone cannot make the same pieces available in two queues.
A remake handles the approved shortfall from rejected or scrapped pieces. Its recovery work has its own schedule and costs, while the customer-order allocation prevents the original and remake from both promising the full order again.

Run the daily planning review
Work Centre Dispatch shows queued, running, held and inspection-bound operations with their current schedule. My Operations gives Operator the assigned work and traveler context. Outside Processing shows supplier custody and promises. Open Jobs supports the customer-date review.
Work Centre Load compares confirmed resource hours with their calendars. Late and At-Risk Jobs identifies missed or infeasible current plans. These reports depend on reviewed remaining work and calendar evidence; an unknown capacity or missing promise stays visible as a planning gap.

Zero capacity shows unschedulable work, proposed slots shown separately; outside supplier spans are lead time, not internal capacity.
Roles and permissions
Sets protected margin, purchase and exception policy, decides below-margin offers, above-limit purchases, financial changes and manual costs, and authorises every job close. Default independence is person-based. A permitted OwnerException requires an explicitly activated small-shop scope and a reason on that decision; switching roles never creates independence.
Builds Draft offers and routing revisions. Every offered quantity alternative is reviewed, and accepted versions stay unchanged. Can release at-margin offers through the recorded EligibleEstimator path; cannot lower the target floor on the quote.
Releases approved job plans, confirms finite schedules, manages material and production scope, reviews tickets across the shop, and prepares close evidence for Shop Owner. May change work-centre capacity/calendar assignments under policy, but not machine/labour/burden rates or employee rate overrides.
Sequences and oversees assigned work centres. Ticket review checks actual employee identity and the work centre's named supervisor; a supervisor cannot approve their own work ticket.
Performs assigned released work, records actual intervals and proposed good/scrap quantities, and issues material to the assigned job. Reported quantities remain provisional until the applicable approval; the operator cannot directly edit aggregate production or stock balances.
Procures material/outside services, records exact supplier and customer-material custody, and controls stock-room issues/returns. Receipt arrival is separate from cert/inspection acceptance. Supplier status and material master edits do not grant financial or stock-balance bypasses.
Inspects disjoint presented lots, records first-article continuation and final acceptance, and resolves technical nonconformance scope. Final acceptance requires a person independent of the production being accepted; a second role does not waive that boundary.
