Direct stock from the dock
When a receiving plate is ready, put-away evaluates the configured rules in ascending numeric priority. Fixed-item, hazmat and velocity rules propose an eligible destination. The decision also considers bin status, capacity, occupancy, committed incoming work and handling compatibility.
A task names the plate, receiving location, suggested bin and rule used. It can be prepared before the whole receipt is closed, allowing completed plates to leave the dock while the Receiving Lead reviews other lines. Held contents are routed according to their restriction; they do not become available because a storage task exists.
| Task detail | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Receipt and license plate | Connect the move to its receiving provenance |
| Source and suggested location | Tell the operator where to scan |
| Actual location and override reason | Preserve a changed destination and its explanation |
| Rule used | Support review of repeated routing problems |
| Assignee and status | Separate proposed work, released work and completion |
The Receiving Lead or Shift Supervisor releases put-away tasks. The Warehouse Operator scans the plate and destination before confirming the move. Confirmation transfers the plate’s underlying stock positions, writes the stock event and records container movement and task time.
Handle a destination that cannot be used
A full or blocked bin needs a recorded alternative. An operator’s allowed override remains within the permitted zone and must pass the same fit, weight, occupancy, item, hazmat and location-lock checks as the original destination. A reason does not waive these restrictions.
If no suitable destination is available, the task stays unresolved and an exception identifies the obstruction. The Warehouse Manager can investigate repeated overrides or change operating restrictions. Admin maintains the routing rules; completed tasks retain the decision that actually governed their move.

Move existing stock
Internal moves support consolidation, reslotting, put-away correction and exception resolution. A whole-plate move identifies the container; a loose-quantity move identifies the exact inventory position, including lot, serial, receipt provenance and any order ownership. The source is checked again when the task posts.
The stock ledger records a decrease at the source and an equal increase at the destination. Moving a parent pallet transfers its actual child contents without counting them twice. Soft reservations can follow an authorized transfer. Hard pick claims must be released and replanned before that stock moves; a transfer cannot strand a released pick or take another task’s source.
The Shift Supervisor, Warehouse Manager and Inventory Controller can organize moves within their permissions. Operators execute released tasks. Reslotting work waits for Warehouse Manager approval because changing pick-face locations can affect active paths and replenishment plans.
Replenish a pick face
Forward-pick settings define minimum and target levels. Below-minimum, scheduled top-off and manual requests use the same replenishment workflow, with their trigger retained. The proposal considers eligible reserve stock, existing commitments and already-open replenishment work before selecting a source and quantity.
A replenishment task moves stock; it does not create supply. Source reservation and replay protection prevent two tasks from claiming the same reserve quantity. The operator confirms the source, quantity and destination, and the paired stock movements leave any untransferred balance at reserve.
Prepare for wave demand
Wave planning compares the selected orders’ demand with usable pick-face stock. Existing order reservations are carried forward in that calculation instead of subtracted or reserved twice. Any eligible shortfall can create a wave-linked replenishment task.
Waves Pending Release shows outstanding replenishments for review. Warehouse Manager or an authorized Shift Supervisor can decide how to proceed with the proposed wave. Accepting an unfinished replenishment does not permit a hard allocation against nonexistent, held or already-claimed stock; affected work stays pending or is replanned.
Open Putaway Tasks, Open Move Tasks and Open Replenishments provide separate operating queues. Dock-to-Stock Time links arrival to completed storage work, while recorded overrides help distinguish a routing problem from a temporary obstruction on the floor.
